Toyota showed once again why it remains the most successful brand in America, reporting a December 2013 sales result of 190,843 units for an increase of 2.2% over December of last year on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis. This added up to annual sales of 2,236,042 vehicles for a 7.4% increase over 2012 on both a DSR and raw-volume basis, consolidating Toyota as America’s no. 1 retail brand in 2013.
Towering above not only Toyota’s lineup but the entire automobile market was the Toyota Camry, which ended the year as the best-selling car in America for the 12th consecutive year. This is a feat that can only be compared to Toyota’s ridiculously impressive performance in the world of hybrid cars, with the Prius family helping Toyota’s hybrid lineup to retain an incredible 60% of the entire hybrid market share as well as set a new all-time sales record in 2013.
